Grand Repos chair by Jean Prouvé, Tecta. Design 1928-1930, production by Tecta from 1980
Jean Prouvé (1901-1984) is one of the most collectible French designer – architect from the 20th century, together with Charlotte Perriand and Pierre Jeanneret.
He designed the Grand Repos lounge chair between 1928 and 1930. The vintage editions are extremely rare, in fact there are only 3 known exemplary, the first is in the permanent collection of the Centre Pompidou in Paris, the second in the collection of the Vitra Design Museum and the third was sold at Artcurial.
The Grand Repos was first showcased during the UAM exhibition in 1930, before to furnish Jean Prouvé’s own house until the war.
In 1980, Jean Prouvé re-designed slightly his Grand Repos chair for the German manufacturer Tecta. After his death, his heirs decided to stop the reedition. The Tecta reedition is thus quite rare and very sought after by design lovers.
Adjustable lounge chair with steel frame, black leather-upholstered sprung seat, armrests and headrest, on castors. In very good condition with patina.
